LGOWatch
Local Government Ombudsman Watch is a national campaigning group united in its
opposition to the pro-local authority bias and undemocratic unaccountability of the
English Local Government Ombudsman's office.
The Group is co-ordinated by Gary Powell, who manages this website and also a
Bulletin List to keep supporters informed of developments. He finances the website
and the Google Advertisement from personal funds; LGOWatch receives no income
from any other source, unlike the LGO's office with its annual government grant of
over £11 million.
The Local Government Ombudsman's office also has 230 staff at its disposal,
whereas most supporters of LGOWatch are still working independently on trying to
get their own cases resolved and achieve a measure of justice. Gary has a full-time
job unconnected with LGOWatch, and works for the campaign on a voluntary basis.
Time and energy are therefore in limited supply, and he must prioritise maintenance
of the website and work on the general campaign for reform/abolition of the LGO's
office. He very much regrets that he therefore cannot become involved in individual
cases, new examples of which, many very complex, are regularly brought to his
attention. He is very sorry about the disappointment this news may cause to
enquirers; it is simply a question of resourcing. If we manage to achieve an
Independent Local Government Complaints Commission, then thousands of future
cases of injustice will be prevented.
Please contact LGOWatch if you support our aims and would like to be included on
our Ebulletin List to receive information about important developments in the
campaign.
