| All three current English Local Government Ombudsmen are former Local Authority Chief Executive Officers. All three current Deputy Ombudsmen worked in local government before joining the Commission, as did the current Deputy Chief Executive. A representative from the Local Government Association approves the decision of the three-member recruitment panel that decides on the appointment of the Local Government Ombudsmen. It is as though the accused are allowed to appoint their own friendly judges. The Ombudsmen are far too professionally close to the people they are meant to be investigating. |
